GM Nigel Short Gives Chess History Lesson

GM Nigel Short is one of the most interesting, and entertaining, chess commentators, and the same can be said for his writing. It is unfortunate some disparage the match he played versus Garry Kasparov. As I have often heard said about a baseball, or American football, or as I prefer to think of it, maimball, game, “The game (match) was closer than the score would indicate.” The WC match Nigel played was quite interesting, and entertaining. The peripatetic Short is a great ambassador for the Royal game. He has commentated on the current London Chess Classic, along with another peripatetic player, now better known as a chess commentator, IM Lawrence Trent. Nigel is well versed in chess history, as can be seen from the chess history lesson he gave IM Lawrence Trent:
